The gestation period for the female bison is about 280 days.  The Bison calves weigh about 30 lbs. at birth and have a tawny-brown coat.  Within three hours, the calves can keep up with the herd.  The calves will nurse for 9 to 10 months

Even though the Bison weigh around 700 to 2,000 lbs., they can run up to 30 mph.  When food is scarce, they will migrate south.

American Bison  (Bison bison) United States in the West – Yellowstone National Park, Wood Buffalo National Park (Canada).  We usually refer to the Bison as a Buffalo in America.  The Buffalo is the largest land animal in North America.  They have a large head with upturned horns with a scruffy beard.  The hump on the male’s shoulder is large.
