Mountain Tapir (Tapirus pinchaque) – North and West South America in mountains and grassland. They have heavy, piglike bodies with a long trunk snout.  This flexible trunk nose helps them under water, using it like a snorkel.  They use the trunk snout for browsing on plant vegetation.   They are important for spreading seeds of plants and trees.

Malayan Tapir (Tapirus indicus)  – Burma, Thailand, the Indochinese peninsula and Sumatra.  The Malayan Tapir is the largest  of the tapirs.  The forward part of this tapirs body is black and the back section of the body is white with black legs.  The babies have brown with whitish markings on the forward part with white on the back body.  They have a long, flexible snout.  Since water is important, they live near water and like to stay submerged for a long time.  There are 3 hooved toes on their feet with a smaller fourth toe.
